Team 47 - Pinky and The Boys **
I am Corie from Plattsmouth, NE and have 4 geldings that will get my time.
Frosted Scribbles (Zippy)is my paint that has been my main ride thus far and has become quite the steady eddie for me and I love him to pieces
Curious Takota (Takota) is our Appy that was my confidence builder horse years ago and now carries my husband safely on rides but I sneak a ride now and then.
CF Maxceptional Two Sox (Soxie) a little solid paint needs more wet saddle blankets and miles to bring him to his fullest potential of the awesome horse he is.
Charlie is a paint/quarter that will require most of my time to get us in a groove. I need to get past my head when it comes to riding him and we will get along great.
I hope weather is good this year so we can all get a lot of miles in!!

1/11/14 Got out of the starting gate for the year on Tammy Vasa's Fancy. Met up at Two Rivers. When the group stopped at the trailers, I opted out of going back out. 6 days of P90X3 had my body pretty sore and I had enough. Was great to get out and see horsey friends!

1/12/14 Had posted this last weekend but it didn't show up :( I had full intentions of grabbing Zippy for a ride, but Takota was begging to go. He rolled his eyes when I saddled him, but too bad, he asked to go right? He told me he was a horse of leisure by wanting to go to the barn...I told him no and he went on. I don't know if I rode him at all last year for the Derby and Chris hasn't been on him in 5-6 months so who can blame him right? Had a good ride.

1/19/14 We had company in for the weekend from Chicago. The weather just got better and better so while the guys were ice fishing on Sunday I took Elaine out for a ride. I put her on Takota who did ask if he could get away with going back to the barn but she handled him very well and away we went. I was on Zip. The wind had picked up and she had a time frame in mind to get back to the house so I planned our route accordingly. We ended up taking the road past the scary Scottish Highland Cattle with no issues and one young kid driving very fast on gravel with no slowing down, but he waved to us so that makes it better right? Dumb kid. We came in the back side of our property to ride by the pond so I could have my husband take pics of us together, then we rode thru the pasture back up to the house. Was a good day to be out.

2/19/14 I figured I should sneak in a ride before the snow. I grabbed Zip, saddled up and took off. Had thought it would be a faster ride than it was. He coughs when he trots or canters and I think its from the dust of the round bale and having his head buried in it eating all day so we mainly walked. Got to the 2 mile mark and ran into a guy with his big lab on a leash. My dogs spotted the dog and started to go towards it and boy oh boy did the lab get excited! Pulled the guy right off his feet and drug him until he had to let go. Thankfully, my dogs are sweet and that one was too. They guy came over and talked and talked and pet Zip. When I turned from there it was already after 6:00. 2 miles at walk to get us back home. It was getting shadowy so Zip was more on edge and of course Paislee had to jump in and out of ditches to make him flinch. Finally rode up to the trailer about 6:50 and it was dark! Certainly the longest 4 mile ride I have taken!! LOL And I was frozen when I got home!

ReplyDeleteJessica and Deanne rode up to get me and we took off to go around Jessica's section. We were almost at the 2 mile mark when Jess got a call and wanted to get back home. Instead of trotting or loping out, I made the decision to turn back and let them move on. Zip has been coughing when trotting. Thinking the dust from round bales is getting to him. I didn't want to just stop so I went on past my drive. Feels good to be out on Zip, but I know once it warms up and my arena is dry, I have to step up and ride the greenies!

3/9/14 Terri picked me up a little late and we headed to Pawnee Lake. We pulled in as the group was riding out. We saddled up and headed out following the trail and looking for hoofprints when we weren't sure if we were on the trail or not. Finally saw them on the other side of the dam but never caught up. We had gunfire, motorcylces and we had just came out of a wooded area when CRACK, you hear a tree break and fall. Thank goodness we were out of there!! We had a great ride and both horses were rock stars. Had a great chat and got totally wind blown. Got back to the trailers to celebrate Tammy Vasa's birthday with some yummy cake that Kathy made. Was a great day!

3/10/814 Didn't go a long distance but it was a huge step for me. I went down and caught 2 horses, Zip and Charlie. Saddled both and did a little ground work with Charlie to make sure he was listening, then climbed on board and ponied him along with Zip. He followed well and got to see a lot of different things. I haven't been on Charlie in almost a year so I am starting slow and I have never ponied anything off Zip. He handled it really well. I guess he really has become my go to guy! Ponied Charlie 2.2 miles, tied him up, then took, Zip out in the field by himself a little longer leaving Charlie tied up. Can't beat the weather today!!

3/15/14 Terri picked me up and we headed south to Coin IA to ride with Christine. I picked my favorite girl Brooklyn and Terri chose Bling and we were the cheerleaders for Christine taking Sky out on a longer ride. Christine has done a great job bringing her along and she handled everything fantastic! Crossing bridges, cantering and a small water crossing. A good, good day!! Weather was perfect! I could canter Brooklyn all day long.....love that floating rocking horse!! By the time we drove north to home the wind had picked up and temps had dropped! I had to go from tank top to a winter coat!! Gotta love NE!!

4/9/14 5.97 miles at Two Rivers for opening ride of the Platte River Riders. Lori was a sweetie and picked me up so I could ride Zip. Was a nice relaxing ride with Lori, Terri and Mike.
ReplyDelete4/11/14 3.04 miles on Zip just down the road. Trying out a new saddle. We loped about 1.5 miles to get a good sweat. No slipping and it fit great!

What an awesome weekend of camping with girlfriends at Bader Park. Was a much needed weekend of relaxation and laughter
5/8/14 4.01 miles at Tammy's house for the Thursday before the Friday before Mother's Day ride. Short ride with a chilly wind with a fabulous pot lock and friends after.
ReplyDelete5/9/14 Friday before Mother's Day 15.97 miles. Held back until everyone had headed out while Annette got to know her new horse Concho. Terri, Annette and I had our own little ride to Loma, had some lunch then headed back. Was a beautiful day to be on horseback!

ReplyDeleteJess and I tried to find trails at a place at the end of Main St Plattsmouth...after 4 miles there we came back home and did 6 miles on the roads.
Total miles 112.62
6/23/14 Jessica, Lori W and Deb H met me at the bottom of my drive and we took a nice ride down the gravel roads. The weather was perfect on the way out...nice breeze and cloud cover. It did get a little warm on the way in when the sun came out but was a nice ride. Dropped them off at Jess's and then Zip and took the last leg alone. We loped almost a mile then mosied the rest of the way home.

ReplyDeleteI know it isn't much but it is a huge victory for me. I haven't been on Soxie since June of last year and he was last ridden the day after Thanksgiving by Terri. I brought him up to the arena and did a little ground work and then hopped on. We worked on all 3 gaits, backing and sidepassing. He is such an awesome little horse. He is going to be on my rotation so that he isn't and evergreen :) Today Zip is up.

ReplyDeleteTerri and I hauled south to Coin to ride with team Purple. Once we saddled up and headed out, I wondered what horse I was riding. Zip was a couple lengths behind! He's usually in the lead. We did some long trotting and he came right back down after that as well. No fighting for the lead. We rode into Missouri and found a dirt road where Terri and I took off running. She clocked us at 28.4 mph. What a fun rush! I didn't even ask my horse for more. Once we got to the top of the hill, both Royal and Zip just dropped their heads and walked on like two broke horses! It was an awesome ride!!

ReplyDeleteGrabbed Takota to start legging him up for Chris for Turkey Creek. Chris is working 6 days a week and teaching 3 nights a week so he doesn't have time. I haven't ridden T forever and don't even know the last time he was ridden....he gave me a little tude about leaving home but otherwise was the bomb! He's such a fun horse.

ReplyDeleteYes, you read that right, .68 miles and worth every step! I haven't been on Charlie in a year and a half. He came back from training late Oct and I was riding him and he started buffaloing me and then winter set in and by the time spring came, life happened and I didn't have the nerve to follow through. Tonight that all changed and I brought him up for some ground work and then started putting weight in the stirrup. He got softer when I did that. I called Chris out for when I climbed on and had him keep me on the lead to start while I remembered to breathe! After a couple passes around him, I took the lead and off we went walking and trotting. Was a great start and I can't wait to really get to know him.

ReplyDeleteTerri of team MacKeogh came out with plans of riding Soxie down the dirt roads, but he had a lot of tension and didn't give all the answers she was looking for. She ended on a good note and we put him up but we were riding no matter what. I busted the layer of mud off Takota and we saddled up and headed out. We have a favorite dirt road that we wanted to be our destination so away we went. Nice leisurely walk while chatting away. Takota was his awesome self and she got to enjoy his rocking chair lope on our way back on the dirt road. :) All in all a great day of sunshine and friendship.
