Team 72 - Mary's Mares *
This is an update on my DD2014 herd. This coming year I will have the choice of three lovely Morgan mares. They are all about 14h 2” well-built horses. About the only visible difference is one is a very dark bay and the other two are black. In reality they are as different as could be.
My main ride will be Bluestem Lady Liberty, 7 yr old black Morgan mare. I got really lucky to get her as the breeder rarely sells her best horses. Libby rides and drives, has a great attitude, and abilities. Last year we did many hours of fun trail riding, including 2 CTRs.
My backup horse will be RG Prairie Sunset, 14 yr old bay Morgan mare. She has always been a keeper, but rarely have I had time for her. She has spent time as a lesson and Pony Club horse. Not that she complains Sunny likes being a pasture ornament. She is an excellent example of a Morgan mare with correct conformation, smarts, and that special mare attitude that she owns the place.
KTM Midnight Star (Kenna) is a 3 ½ yr old black gaited Morgan mare. She is my wildcard project this year. She was on the Utah range until last spring. She is smart and thinks she needs to take care of herself. Kenna is now at a trainer learning the details of being a trained horse. So far so good, she is settling in to work showing smooth gaits and a lovely loping canter.

My title can be changed to Mary's Mares. Many know that I prefer mares and would rather put up with mare attitude than some of the geldings I have had. We ride and drive whenever and where ever we can with my husband, Dwight, and our friends. Our best weekends are camping/trail riding trips.

ReplyDeleteLibby was not ready to go back to work. I planned on an easy pasture ride and it turned into a lunging session to get the 'kick' out. Back to basics.

Rode a Tennessee Walker named Patches at Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs, CO on Colorado Cowgirl Weekend. She was a sweetie, but does not belong in a dude string. She wanted to walk out, but the other horses were too slow.

Learn today that I need to get more time in the arena doing detail work. Just riding down the road or trail is not creating a disciplined horse.
