This year I want to push myself to get in the saddle even more. 2013 threw a lot of curve ball bills at me so I wasn’t able to travel with the horses as much as I would have liked to – 2014 I hope will be a better year financially so I can do more with the horses. I plan to work toward really softening my horses this next year; take more lessons, go to more shows & my 1 big goal is to save enough to go to at least 1 CTR! (I miss them so much it makes my soul hurt!) Would love to do 1 on each horse, but that will depend on CTR locations.
After 2013 I no longer have a main mount; I have built such a great relationship with both my horses I love riding them both equally & find myself having a very hard time choosing which to ride; which is a good problem to have. My old man; Festus; a 21 year old (in 2014) Grullo Quarter horse that I have had for 17 years now (as seen is photo above). He is my "once in a life time horse" and even with his quirks I still can't imagine ever having to replace him. My second mount is my mare Libby; a 13 year old (in 2014) Chestnut 1/2 Welsh, 1/4 Thoroughbred, 1/4 Trakanter that we had breed for us as the "ultimate trail horse" by a close friend. This past year she has made some great changes & I am very excited to continue to develop her.
I learned a lot about myself & my horses this past year – very excited to continue that journey!
So excited to get out, get riding, and meet more DD riders!

Branched Oak 2014 Trail Challenge - Libby & I placed 5th out of 63 adults! A complete & total unexpected wonderful surprise! I rode Festus last year I we got 7th or 8th - never thought we would place - SO proud of my little mare! & Tom was such a trooper - handled Festus great even with his lack of horsemanship riding skills - very proud of both of them - it wasn't always pretty but Tom had fun & STAYED on!

But at least we could work on manners of hills; she is great at getting into "mountain gear" going down hills but still likes to rush up them sometimes. Hope to go 1 more time Monday night - then give her the rest of the week off. Sure didn't get in the miles I hoped to, but mental rides are some times just as important. Got a nice but quick 3.5 on Libby (girl time!), then switched over to Festus, ponied Sheldon, & meet up with my neighbor for a nice 5 something mile ride. Then when I got back home, did some ground work with Sheldon then rode him around the alfalfa field again.

Got back home after being out of town for Thanksgiving with enough time for 2 short rides. Took Sheldon to the tress out back & did a little deer trailing - he was awesome! Then, even though it was gettign dark, I saddled up Festus & took him for a spin. He was being so good & it was so nice out, I wanted to go 10 more miles!
