I'm Cheryl Taylor from Nebraska. I like to set goals for my life and riding. It helps me stay accountable plus its fun to compare how the hours and miles add up with the different horses in the months and years. This will be my third year competing in the Distance Derby. In 2012 we logged 851.3 miles and finished in 12th place. That was quite an education. In 2013 I will make the Millenium Club! What's in store for 2014?
I will be splitting my time between the two paint mares pictured and a dun quarter horse. Dakota has been my primary trail mount for the last four years. She is the black and white, blue eyed beauty. Maybe, the little dun stepped up to the plate in 2013. Boon N Jane was added to my string in 2013 and I plan to have more miles on her in 2014! this tracking miles is interesting, but my style of riding is really better suited to tracking hours so I keep track of both!

Did a little experiment tonight. Wanted to try to get time on all three. Took me almost 2 hours to take each one up the road to Dunkle's and back.
With the wonderful rain (including 1/2" this evening) the outdoor arena was soft and it was really humid, so wanted to ride outside to take advantage of the light breeze. Not sure why the mileage is the same on Maybe and Tia, shorter on Dakota? Fun experiement, don't think I'll repeat LOL.

The temperature was 30 and the winds were 30mph with 40 mph gusts. Snow on the ground blowing everywhere, so I spent an hour getting the indoor cleaned and watered so I could ride in (relative) comfort! By the time I got off Maybe it was 16*
It was a slow week for riding. Temps in the single digits, sub zero windchills, then a trip to Denver, then CPPD Employee Appreciation. So this was my first real chance to ride in a week! Took advantage and rode two!

Started in arena when the temp hit 14* and wind chill 4, sun came out, wind died down , felt pretty good, and we headed for Dunkle's. Mark got a great sunset shot from the hill. Mission accomplished for Mark 1300+ miles
Last ride for Distance Derby 2014 and saying good bye to the Distance Derby. It's been a great three years riding my best horses and virtually sharing the trail with friends old and new. 2015 will bring a new race and a new adventure! Thanks for the ride!
